No matter which kind of card you are building (a story, a resource, a lesson), the metadata in the card is built the same: as a bundle. This article walks through the common denominators of that bundle, from the cover image down to the on-device preview.
Add or replace the cover image
On the top left of the bundle you will see an empty frame. This is the image that will appear as either a full-spread or shaped thumbnail on the card. Leave blank, and any uploaded media content will fill the space automatically.
- Click the frame. An empty frame shows a dashed border and a small picture icon.
- Choose a picture from your computer (PNG, JPG, or WebP).
- The picture appears in the frame right away. To swap it later, click the frame again. Hovering over a filled frame shows Replace cover image.
If your card came from a file with artwork already inside it, the cover may fill in on its own. You can still click to replace it.
Write the title and description
- Type the card's name into title. This is the larger text people see on the device in Dashboard and Xochi Assistant.
- Add a sentence or two in the description. On the device, long descriptions are trimmed to about two lines, so lead with what matters.
Open "More details"
Click More details to unfold the less-used fields.
- locale: tap one of the language pills (
en,es,nah) to mark the card's language. Tap it again to clear it, or type another language code in the box below the pills. - label: a short tag shown on some card styles, like EXPLORE.
- icon: an optional icon name for apps that use one.
- updated_at (fixed): the date and time the card last changed. You cannot edit it; it is bumped automatically on save.
- deep_link: the card's permanent address. While the full link is fixed, the final part ("slug") can be renamed to reflect the card data best. As you type, spaces become dashes and capital letters become lowercase, so the address always stays valid. Keep it short and memorable, because other cards can point to it.
Choose how the card looks
While inside More details, the presentation row has three pill selectors:
- cover: the default. Your picture fills the whole card, with the title over a darkened band at the bottom.
- thumb: your picture sits inside a decorative frame on a colored card, with the text below it.
- solid: no picture at all. The card leads with its title on a colored surface, with the app's symbol in a framed medallion. Only use for content with no visual data: phone numbers, notices, and text-first cards.
Selecting thumb or solid reveals one more choice: a grid of frame shapes, with circles, flowers, bursts, hearts, and more. Tap one to frame your picture or medallion with it. The circle is the starting shape, and the card's colors come from your cover picture on their own.
What the device shows
At the bottom of the editor is a slim bar labeled Device preview. Click it and the preview expands upward, rendering your card exactly as the device's home screen will, both in regular and abbreviated forms.
- The square tile is the wide slot. It shows your title and description.
- The narrow pill-shaped column is the slim slot. It has no room for text, so the device drops it there: cover cards show just the picture, and solid cards keep only the title. Check both so your card reads well wherever it lands.
The preview follows your edits live. Click the Device preview bar again to tuck it away; it remembers whether you left it open.
